The short answer
Niharika Bhawan is in Katra town, so you do not need a long transfer after reaching the railway station or bus stand. A short local ride, by auto-rickshaw or taxi, is usually all it takes. If you are travelling light and the weather is pleasant, many pilgrims simply walk. Call us on +91 96274 27283 when you step out and we will guide you the rest of the way.

From Katra bus stand
Buses from Jammu, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal and other states terminate at the Katra bus stand, from where it is a short ride into the main part of town. Auto-rickshaws and taxis are easy to find, and walking is possible if you are carrying little luggage.
From Jammu railway station or Jammu airport
Jammu is the major gateway for Katra. The road journey normally takes around one and a half to two hours, depending on traffic and weather, and taxis and buses run throughout the day. If you are flying in, factor in baggage time and traffic before promising an arrival time to your room host.
Arriving by your own car
If you are driving, ask us about the best approach and parking before you reach town. Katra streets can be busy during peak season, and a quick call saves time.
How far is the Vaishno Devi shrine from Katra?
Katra is the base town. The trek from Katra to the Bhawan (the shrine) is commonly quoted at roughly 12 to 13 km, and most pilgrims take several hours to complete it, depending on pace, weather and crowds. Because Niharika Bhawan is in Katra, your Yatra starts close to where you sleep. Along the route you will find ponies, palkis and battery cars operating under Shrine Board rules, and many people use a helicopter for part of the way. Always check the current arrangements before you go.
